Results? August 13, 2007

We may be seeing results already, but this is subjective. Typically it takes 3 weeks to start seeing results after getting stem cell treatments. The changes may start out subtly. Rebecca and Michael noticed that on August 2nd Michael did seem to be walking and getting around a little better, that may have been from his CVAC therapies which may indicate a mechanical issue (his back?). Michael's says his sense of color acuity seems to be a bit better in his right eye and his bladder weakness may be a bit less (less likely an issure related to his back).

As mentioned before, Michael also has severe disc degeneration of his lumbar spine. Since he also has MS, Doctors have often been reluctant to resolve this situation, fortunately we have found a doctor who was interested in sorting this mess out. During a recent EMG (Electromyography), much to the surprise of the administiring physiatrist, it did indicate that there is in fact a mechanical impingement of his nerves. Michael has been trying for many years to avoid surgery, but after trying so many other options, he is now scheduled for surgery August 27, 2007 (as long as Dr. Steenblock thinks that this is advisable so soon after getting the stem cell treatments).

Donations are coming in slowly, and we are needing much more help paying for the Umbilical Stem Cell treatments. Please see the donations page for current progress on the fundraising goals. Michael's health insurance should pay for the back surgery.

We will keep adding updates every couple of weeks to let you know what's new and how he is doing.
